Empowering victims of Sexual Abuse
While the terms sexual abuse and sexual assault are often used interchangeably, they refer to distinct forms of harm.
- Sexual Assault involves any non-consensual sexual contact or behavior with an adult.
- Sexual Abuse, on the other hand, includes any sexual activity involving a minor or a person unable to consent due to factors such as age, disability, or other vulnerabilities.
This can include both physical contact, such as intercourse, and non-contact forms, such as exposure or the distribution of pornography.
The key difference is that sexual assault typically involves an adult victim, whereas sexual abuse refers to acts committed against minors or individuals who legally cannot consent.
